Races in Castellar

Players may also choose from this list of custom subraces or propose their own custom subrace to Arawen.

Humans
Humans in the empire are divided between two groups. Those with and those without Castellaran blood flowing in their veins. Humans are by far the largest population group in the empire and make up 80% of its population.

Dwarves
There is a large group of dwarves that live in the Central empire and more in the Western Ranges. Dwarves enjoy a semi-autonomous status in the empire. They must follow the laws of the empire when outside of their regional homelands, but the Empire has learned long ago not to try to interfere with the internal affairs of these people.

Elves
Elves are a rare sight on the streets of most Castellaran cities. They live within the empire in the Silver Forests of the North and rarely venture outside their lands. Nominally within the empire, little is known about the goings on in their trees and woods. Humans with elven ancestry are more common in the empire since in the past there was more contact between humans and elves. Half-elven citizens may live with their human or elven families.

Halflings
Some of these wee folk are found near every city and village in the empire. They are generally farmers and herdsmen in the empire and mingle freely with every other population in the realm.

Half-Orcs
The strong military presence of the Empire has kept Orc raids a rarity, but they still do happen once or twice a year in some part of the empire. However there are one or two groups of Orc that live peacefully within the empire and under its laws.

Gnomes
Gnomes can be found in large cities, usually in libraries or universities. Many of the noble houses also employ a gnomish tinker or two, mostly for status. These small strange folk can also be found in many of the elven enclaves, as some have become fascinated by the natural world in the same way their brethren are intrigued by things mechanical and magical.
